The Government Makes Up Your Mind About The Future

Here is an article informing us of a project to identify the resistance that will be met against further identity management technologies such as implantable chips and mobile face or iris recognition technology. These studies will seek to find techniques around the resistance to such technology. If we truly lived in a free society, should the government be allowed to use our money to find ways to undermine our feelings about such invasive technologies? This will bring us closer to a Minority Report type world, and we should be able to say no to such a world.
This is only one example of the government studying techniques that help introduce idea or technologies into society for their benefit. We are in a propaganda soaked society from commercial, but especially government sources.
Managing identity
Researchers from Northumbria University are among a team of academics sharing in a £1.36million grant to examine future technologies of identity management. The project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). An additional grant has been awarded by the Department of Homeland Security in America to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to simultaneously conduct the study in the US.
The Identity Management: Public Responses to Identity Technologies and Services (IMPRINTS) project aims to assess how and why the UK and US public will engage with particular future practices, services and technologies of identity management, while resisting others.
Iris and full-body scans and face or voice recognition have already become well-known practices, but innovations like implantable chips, odour scans, online ‘object’ passwords and mobile identity-sharing are on the horizon. It is unclear whether and why members of the public will embrace these innovations or reject them.
The Northumbria aspect of the project will involve sourcing futuristic scenarios from science fiction and academic literature and then developing stimuli to use with focus groups to trigger thinking around identity management.
Professor Briggs said: “I’ll be working with focus groups drawn from different populations, including young people, older adults and refugees, to talk to them about what ‘identity management’ means to them and we’ll be looking at inter-generational differences in what is acceptable and unacceptable in the ‘big brother’ world.
“The aim of the study is to develop a clear sense of the identity ‘taboos and desires’ and work with industry and government to use the ‘desire’ space for development.”
Professor Van Zoonen, Chair of Media and Communications at Loughborough, who is leading the project, added: “'There is a peculiar paradox between the eager sharing of personal details on social network sites, and the deep anxieties about, for instance, biometric identification or a national identity card.
“In this project we aim to gain a better understanding of such anxieties and appetites, and understand the way citizens will respond to new identity management technologies, services and practices in order to promote trustworthy and pleasurable processes of identity verification.”
To achieve this understanding, the researchers will work with stakeholders from civil society and government, security and commercial sectors in both the UK and US.
The project brings together experts in design, computer science, political science, media, psychology, sociology, and risk management, and findings will inform future government and security policy on identity management and its implementation, as well as provide resources for further research.

Sometimes the news gives us little clues within the headlines, if we are smart enough to realize what it is saying. Here they are saying that Obama needs to generate the feeling of a medical crisis within the country in order to revive his push for "Obamacare". Anyone should realize that a decision made under duress is not only likely to be a bad decision but also illegal. Duress includes moral pressure according original meanings. This article is in fact admitting to the most often used ploy by politicians.
We can not subcomb to fear. When you give into fear you tend to give up control of your life in exchange for a sense of alleviation of those fears. Government constantly attempts to play the role of public protector. Those who run the government know these techniques, and unless their intentions are as pure as the angels in heaven (which they can never be, only those who dream of control and power make it to the top of politics) this technique will be used to coerce the public to the ends which they desire for us. As public servants they have only one opposition in life, the people. Only the people can take away their paychecks and positions of lofty power. That being the case it is us they need to coerce.
Obama May Need Sense of Crisis to Revive Health-Care Overhaul
By Julianna Goldman and Nicholas Johnston
Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama returns to Washington next week in search of one thing that can revive his health-care overhaul: a sense of crisis.
Facing polls showing a drop in his approval, diminished support from independents, factions within his Democratic Party and a united Republican opposition, Obama must recapture the sense of urgency that led to passage of the economic rescue package in February, analysts said.
“At the moment, except for the people without insurance, we’re not in a health-care crisis,” said Stephen Wayne, a professor of government at Georgetown University in Washington. “You do need a crisis to generate movement in Congress and to help build a consensus.”
